Are you a small-medium scale consultant or developer? Have you explored the community energy market?

Community renewable energy schemes are on the increase and are a key part of the Welsh Government’s plan for a sustainable, low carbon economy. Many schemes, however, are failing at the planning consent stage.

The Energy Saving Trust/BEST want to help planners, architects and renewable energy consultants in Wales to maximise the benefits and the opportunities that community energy brings in Wales.

They have set up a new training programme – free to organisations / individuals based in Wales’ convergence areas – which could help you understand the community market for your services and provide you with free CPD hours.

Often community groups have specific needs and may require support to navigate the planning system and communicate the benefits they bring in planning applications. But what are ‘community’ energy schemes, what are the commercial benefits, and how can these be communicated effectively to planning authorities?

The training programme will provide you with an understanding of the requirements, issues and opportunities around community-scale renewable energy and enable you to apply this to project development and planning applications.

Training will be delivered over 10 learning hours with a mixture of webinars, flexible e-learning and a classroom session by the Energy Saving Trust on behalf of BEST (Built Environment Sustainability Training offered by Cardiff University).

If you would like to know more please email [email protected]. Further information is also available here. Delivery is scheduled to take place in May and June 2015.
